English program founder honored

Sam Phillips recently was honored for his special contributions to the Japanese community in Peachtree City

Twenty years ago, the First Baptist Church of Peachtree City began to offer English classes to help the many Japanese families coming into the area. Phillips was asked to coordinate this program and has continued to do so for all these years.

Although this program will continue with a new format and curriculum next year, Phillips said he felt it was time to retire and pass the baton to others. He was presented with a special certificate of appreciation recently by many of the students and teachers gathered in Picnic Park.
