Former Fayette teacher honored by retirees The Fayette County Retired teachers Association recently recognized Fayetteville resident Jan Puschaver as the teacher making the greatest contribution to education after retiring. Puschaver retired from the Fayette County School System after teaching for 21 years, at Hood Avenue, Peachtree City and Kedron elementary schools and Fayetteville Primary. During her tenure she taught kindergarten, third grade and gifted students in grades one through five. She also taught five years in Atlanta schools before coming to Fayette. She then established a second career, as center director for the newly opened Sylvan Learning Center in the Banks Station shopping center in Fayetteville. Her duties include working with parents, teachers and students in providing individualized programs to help students catch up and get ahead academically. As an example, a high school junior who needed to improve his SAT scores to get into the University of Georgia saw a 270-point increase in six weeks.
