Student-athlete excels

Murray State University sophomore Cheryl Graham, a graduate of McIntosh High School, has been named to the Verizon Academic All-District 4 second team for spring women's at-large sports.

Graham plays number five singles for the women's tennis team at MSU and earned a cumulative GPA of 3.92 in the field of biology.

Women's at-large sports include rowing, tennis, golf, lacrosse, indoor and outdoor track and field and water polo. District 4 is comprised of colleges and universities in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve, have attended classes at his/her institution for at least two semesters and have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or better. Balloting is done by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. Members of the first team are placed on the national ballot for Academic All-American.
