Host families needed, deadline extended

The deadline to sign up to host music students from Scotland for an upcoming concert has been extended through Wednesday, June 6.

The Fayette County School System is in need of approximately 20 more host families to provide temporary housing for the East Ayrshire Bands and Choir from Ayrshire, Scotland, June 27-30.

The all-star band and choir from the East Ayrshire School District are coming to Fayette to give a public performance at Sams Auditorium June 29. Fayette's Community Education Program and Achievers International (Georgia) are sponsoring the performance.

Host families are needed to house members of the band and chorus during their stay in Fayette as well as to provide transportation to and from the LaFayette Educational Center. If possible, host families are being asked to take a minimum of two students.

Potential hosts will need to complete profile sheets so that the community school can match students to people with similar interests and preferences. A meeting to discuss itinerary details with host families is scheduled for later in June at the LEC.

School officials will transport the students to and from the airport. Host families will pick up their students from the LEC June 27 at 4:30 p.m. The students are scheduled to arrive at the LEC at 11 a.m. June 28 for rehearsal and will need to be picked up at midnight. A field trip to the Georgia state Capitol, the Coca-Cola building and Stone Mountain is scheduled for noon June 28. Host families are invited.

A second rehearsal for the band and chorus is scheduled for 3-5 p.m. at the LEC June 29 with the performance following at 7:30 p.m. Host families will receive complimentary tickets for family members. Also, a reception will follow the performance for the group, host families and invited guests. Students will need to be returned to the LEC by 11 a.m. June 30 for departure.

To participate phone Jim Pittman, director of the community school, at 770-460-3535, extension 134, or Cindy Campbell at extension 136.
