Landmark School eyes move to Tyrone By JOHN THOMPSON
Landmark Christian School could be on the move from its Fairburn campus, but not anytime soon. Tomorrow, officials from the school will travel to Tyrone to seek rezoning for a 95-acre tract on Farr Road. Tyrone Town Manager Barry Amos said school officials want the property's zoning changed from residential to office-institutional to build a new school. Amos said the site plan shows classroom buildings, along with a football stadium, soccer field and practice fields. Landmark director of development Fran Belloir said the school would eventually move all its facilities to the Tyrone site, but only after going through a 10- to 15-year phase-in plan. "We really want to expand the elementary school, so that's the first thing we would do," she said. Currently, the school has two classes per grade and officials want to move toward four classes per grade, but there's not enough room at the current location. "It would take a long time for everything to be located in Tyrone," she said. The school currently has 775 students and Belloir said the new facility would allow it to expand to 1,100. One of the last items built at the facility would be the football stadium, since the school already has a stadium in Fairburn. Landmark, a private school serving the entire south metro area, moved from Fayetteville to the campus formerly occupied by Campbell High School in Fairburn more than 10 years ago. Other items on the agenda include: A public hearing on a text amendment to allow wholesale automobile dealers within the C-2 zoning category. A public hearing on an amendment to development regulations to increase buffers between residential and other use categories. A review of the site plan for lot six in Shamrock Industrial Park. Thursday's Planning Commission meeting is set for 7 p.m. at Tyrone Town Hall.
