A Fayette County educator has been named school-level Administrator of the Year by the Georgia Association of Educators.

Karen Bullock, assistant principal at Spring Hill Elementary School in Fayetteville, was recognized at Monday night's Fayette County Board of Education meeting for her achievement. She has just completed her first year at Spring Hill, but she had been an assistant principal for more than 12 years and is a 23-year veteran of the county school system.

Currently in the middle of a two-year term as president of the Fayette County Association of Educators, Bullock said she was nominated by that body's executive officers after Fayette became the second county in the state to approve a non-renewal policy for new teachers in the wake of changes in teachers' rights resulting from Gov. Roy Barnes' education reform legislation of the past two years.

Bullock has served on the administration of Peachtree City Elementary and Brooks Elementary after spending more than a decade in the classroom.
