Local city hoping for big returns from bike race By JOHN
THOMPSON
Sometime next spring, colorful bikes could be racing through Union City. Union City Manager Sonya Carter said the City Council approved $10,000 this week to market and advertise the bike race that will be winding its way through the city next spring. The bike race will be a short speed race and could be featured on national television. "It all depends on which racers we get," Carter said. The city has been looking for a "special event" to help promote the city, and Carter said city officials are excited about having a national-caliber race. "This could put the city on the map," she said. During the next few months, city officials will finalize the date and launch an aggressive advertising campaign in hopes of luring thousands of spectators to the South Fulton city. "These races have a really large following and it could be a real economic boon to the city," she said. Officials plan to keep the citizens updated on the status of the race and are hopeful the whole community will rally around the event.
