Union City working to oust adult store

Union City residents want answers on how to get an adult bookstore out of their neighborhood.

Last week, Atlanta City Councilman Derrick Boazman appeared before the Union City Council and explained the legal process his city went through in trying to close an adult club.

Union City Manager Sonya Carter said the meeting went well, and residents have a better understanding of the complexities involved in the issue.

New York Video has been open in Union City for two years, and residents have been outspoken in their desire to see it leave town.

But Carter said the legal process in trying to get the business to move is complex and time-consuming.

"We're in the process of litigation, so I really can't comment, but we are moving forward in the process," she said.

Many residents think closing the store can be accomplished overnight, but the process can drag on for months and years, Carter said.

After Boazman spoke, many residents were more informed about the legal maneuvering that takes place in many adult-oriented closures. Carter said the city is doing everything it can, but the legal process will take time.
