'Hope Print' highlight of benefit dinner
As part of the second annual Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training Benefit Dinner scheduled for Sunday, a community "Hope Print" art mural will be created reflecting community efforts to help find a cure for these diseases. Other entertainment activities are scheduled for the 4:30-7:30 p.m. event, in the Valentino's Restaurant parking lot in the Braelinn Village shopping center in Peachtree City. "We got the original idea for the community Hope project after seeing a drawing by 4-year-old Georgia Chapter 'hero' patient Jon-David Ridgen, who had expressed his gratitude for Team In Training efforts while battling this deadly disease," said Suzanne Burnside, local Team In Training event coordinator. Girl Scout Troop 368, under the leadership of troop leader Art Martin, will assist with this special project. The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is to cure leukemia and other blood related cancers while improving the quality of life of patients and their families. The Team In Training program was developed to help raise money for research. Team In Training members are asked to assist in the fund-raising effort and also push themselves to achieve endurance athletic goals, such as the Washington, D.C. Marine Corps Marathon this fall and the Disney World Marathon this winter. Area residents Lisa Aultman, Rebecca Capezzuto, Angela Wilder and Burnside will be running for local "hero" patients in these events. The Great Frame Up Store of Peachtree City is donating a 4' x 4' canvas for the benefit dinner. Local "hero children" prints will be featured in the center. For a $1 donation, area supporters of all ages can add their hand prints in bright colors to the art mural representing the community support and HOPE in finding a cure for Leukemia, lymphoma and other blood related cancers. Once completed, the Great Frame Up Store will frame the finished work. Plans are being made to possibly have reproductions made if supporters want to purchase them. The original art piece will be presented to the city for display. Proceeds for the benefit dinner, "Hope Print" and special raffle and silent auction items go to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
