Families needed to host Scottish students

Organizers of a local concert by a Scottish band and choir are looking for volunteers to help host the visiting musicians.

Deadline to sign up as a host family is Monday, May 21.

The Community Education Program of the Fayette County School System, in cooperation with Achievers International (Georgia) will host the East Ayrshire Bands and Choir from Ayrshire, Scotland, June 27-29.

This group is an all-star band and chorus from the East Ayrshire School District. They will perform at Sams Auditorium June 29. Host families are needed to house members of the band and chorus during their stay in Fayette as well as to provide transportation to and from the LaFayette Educational Center.

Due to time constraints, the Community Education Program is appealing to parents of students in the Fayette School System to volunteer to serve as host families June 27-30. If possible, host families are being asked to take a minimum of two students.

Potential hosts will need to complete profile sheets so that the community school can match students to people with similar interests and preferences. A meeting to discuss itinerary details with host families is scheduled for May 22 in building D of the LEC at 7:30 p.m.

School officials will handle transporting the students to and from the airport. Host families will pick up their students from the LEC June 27 at 4:30 p.m. June 28, the visiting students are scheduled to arrive at the LEC at 11 a.m. for rehearsal and will need to be picked up at midnight. A field trip to the Georgia State Capital, the Coca-Cola building and Stone Mountain is scheduled for noon June 28. Host families are invited to attend.

A second rehearsal for the band and chorus is scheduled for 3-5 p.m. at the LEC June 29 with the performance following at 7:30 p.m. All host families will receive complimentary tickets for family members. Also, a reception will follow the performance for the group, host families and invited guests. Students will need to be returned to the LEC by 11 a.m. June 30 for departure.

To get a host family profile sheet or more information phone Jim Pittman, director of the community school, at 770-460-3535, ext. 134, or Cindy Campbell at ext. 136.
