Key county appointments announced

Fulton County Manager Tom Andrews has selected two senior managers to fill key County positions.

The appointments are D. C. Maudlin Jr. as public works director and John H. Culbreth, as parks and recreation director.

Maudlin comes to Fulton County after completing 26 years of commissioned service with the United States Army.

Most recently, he was the assistant chief of staff, engineer, for Army Forces Central Command, Fort McPherson, Ga.

Previously, he was installation commander for the National Imagery and Mapping Agency, Bethesda, Md., from 1998 to 1999.

A member of the Army Corps of Engineers, Maudlin, in addition to staff assignments, commanded various engineer units during his Army tenure.

He earned an undergraduate degree in land surveying and a master's degree in construction management from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind.

Culbreth, who has worked for the city of Atlanta for the past 30 years, was most recently deputy commissioner, Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs.

He was the principal planner/neighborhood planning unit coordinator, Department of Planning and Development, Bureau of Planning, from 1994 to 2000. Additionally, he was special assistant to the commissioner for the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs in 1990 and worked with the Office of Economic Development from 1982 to 1989.

Culbreth also spent 12 years, from 1970 to 1982, serving in various positions with the city of Atlanta's Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs.

He is a graduate of Clark College, now Clark Atlanta University, in Atlanta.

Maudlin's appointment is effective May 23 and Culbreth will be on board May 16.
