Middle schools students score well in academic competition

Coweta County can hold its head high regarding the success of the middle school academic competition this year.

The teams compete in five meets against 18 schools from a five-county region in the Academic Bowl..

Each meet consists of three matches.

At the end of the season, scores from all meets are calculated. Honors go to the three teams with the highest cumulative scores.

This year, Coweta teams walked away with first, second and third places in the region. Schools receiving these awards were Arnall Middle School in first place, Smokey Road in second place, and Evans Middle in third.

The Arnall Middle School team consisted of Buck Alford, Lauren Leschper, Kyle Coleman, Matt McClellan, Ross Elliott, Andrew Garrett, Robin Laverentz, Ray Nicholson and Kenny Wiley. Teacher sponsors are Carolyn Butler and Ruth Ann Easler.

The Smokey Road team consisted of Amanda Smith, Brady Sumner, Michael Jefts, Pierre Whatley, Andrew Johnson, Brett Murray, Patrick Triggs and Taylor Brown. Their teacher sponsors are Donna Krach and Betsy Perry.

The Evans Middle School team consisted of Justin Brown, Lauren Brown, Kathleen Mayer, Jack Mayer, Chip Moore, Yancey Flynn, Jamal Hill, Daniel Conlan, Shane Glissan and Oliver Turner. Teacher sponsors are Patty MacNabb and Jacqueline Crumpacker.
