Local resident's novel published

Union City resident Betty Oglesby Payne has just had her first novel published by NewSouth Books.

"Shine Annie" is a story of a black girl growing up in Georgia in 1960.

The novel focuses on the social changes occurring in the era including the civil rights movement.

Payne has had previous stories published in Ebony Jr., True Story, Jive and Black Romance.

She has lived in Union City since 1993. The book is now available in area bookstores for purchase.
