Lt. governor to speak

Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor is the guest speaker at this month's Fulton Industrial Business Association meeting, Wednesday, May 16 at the Comfort Inn-Six Flags, just off Fulton Industrial Boulevard at Interstate 20.

The meeting starts at 7:45 a.m. with a free continental breakfast sponsored by the South Fulton Citizen.

During the last legislative session, Taylor was Gov. Roy Barnes' point man in getting many of his legislative initiatives passed.

In 2000, the General Assembly passed Taylor's proposal requiring every convicted felon in the state to submit a DNA sample to be catalogued for law enforcement purposes.

Taylor was born in Atlanta and raised in Albany. He graduated from Emory and the University of Georgia Law School.

In 1998, he defeated 12 opponents to become the state's 10th lieutenant governor. In his two years in office, he has helped pass budgets that contained nearly $250 million in property tax cuts for residents as part of a program that will eventually exempt the first $50,000 of a home's value.

Prior to being elected lieutenant governor, Taylor served as a state senator for 11 years. During his tenure in the Senate, Taylor helped reform the state's welfare program by sponsoring the Welfare-to-Work law.

Seating at the breakfast is first come, first served and priority is give to FIBA members.
