Grantville prepare for festival

The Grantville Association will host its annual Grantville Day Downtown Festival Saturday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

This year's event will feature performances by puppeteer/storyteller Akbar Imotep from Atlanta's renowned Center For Puppetry Arts. A live auction will be conducted by James Baggett Auctions and the Grantville Senior Center will hold their Craft & Quilt Fair in the historic Freight Depot.

In the evening, Buddy Broach & the Good Time Boys will return for the annual Grantville Day Downtown Street Dance. Proceeds from the auction and puppet performances will benefit the Grantville Auditorium Restoration Fund.

As plans are shaping up for the downtown celebration, the Grantville Association is accepting vendor applications for the event. Vendors are still needed for children's activities, arts and crafts, food and refreshment booths. The fee for a 10' x 10' booth space is $25 for food vendors and $10 for all other vendors. For more information, contact Darwin Palmer at 770-583-3090.

The Grantville Association is also accepting items for the live auction. Antiques, estate items, tools, cars and other items may be donated or sold on consignment. All donations are tax deductible. For more information, contact James Baggett at 770-583-2300.

If you would like to volunteer to help coordinate in this year's Grantville Day activities, please contact Brigid Galloway at 770-583-2712. The next Grantville Day planning meeting will be held on May 15 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room across from the Grantville Public Library in City Hall.
