Spring Hill PTO seeks funds for playground

Spring Hill Elementary School's PTO is working to raise more than $33,000 for a playground for its primary aged children, 5 - 7 years old.

"Play is often viewed as wasteful and frivolous," said PTO President Wendy Jackson in a letter to supporters. "Parents and educators know that play is an integral part of the total educational program," she added.

The facility will be used five days a week for seven to eight hours a day for approximately 450 students in kindergarten through second grade. "We house a program for moderately and severely disabled students," Jackson wrote. "This will give additional equipment for these students to utilize during the school day," she added.

The playground, she said, is designed to include structured equipment for students to use as well as areas for creative play and open space.

To help out, phone the school at 770-460-3432, or the PTO playground chairman, Kelly Bridges, at 678-817-5852.
