Old-fashioned bakery now open in Fairburn

The old post office has had a makeover and the city of Faiburn is home to a new business on Campbellton Street.

Matt and Ingrid Mammoth are the proprietors of Our Daily Bread bakery there.

When scouting around for something to do after retiring a year ago, the Mammoths saw an opportunity to put their past experience to work. Matt is a native of Germany, where he designed equipment for bakeries and in the '60s became a third generation baker, following in the footsteps of his parents, who baked 20-pound loaf bread.

The Mammoths moved his family from Germany to Atlanta in 1965 and opened his own business, Swiss Deli and Bakery in Eastlake Mall, in 1977.

At Our Daily Bread, the Mammoths are preparing bread daily white, wheat, sun dried tomato, Germany rye and seven-grain.

"I make products that were made years ago and are good for our health," Matt Mammoth said. "I want to share my bread and sweets with everyone."

The business has been well-received by the community.

"Fairburn has waited 40 years for a good bakery," said Fairburn Mayor Betty Hannah.

The president of Fairbanco is one of their best customers, Matt says, noting that he has one customer who walks a mile each day for a strudel burger.

The Mammoths expressed their appreciation to Christian City, Fairbanco, Jernigan Hardware Store, Fairburn United Methodist Church, Fairburn City Hall and the citizens of Fairburn for their support.
