Grants go to service agencies

Helping children live more wholesome lives will come a little easier in 2001-2002 for Fulton County community-based programs that will receive $1.85 million in FRESH grants from the Board of Commissioners.

The board approved the funding at a recent meeting, based on recommendations made by community advisory boards representing commission districts 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. Approved youth-oriented agencies in each district will receive a total of $370,000. The funds are for cultural and economic development, educational, health, recreational, social development, and violence prevention programs.

FRESH Fulton Roundtable Expanded Service Headquarters is sponsored by the Fulton County Roundtable on Children under the leadership of Commissioner Nancy A. Boxill. The Fulton County Human Services Department administers the grants.

Grants in South Fulton District 7 will go to:

Another Way Out Inc.; Boy Scouts of America Inc./Atlanta Area Council; Community Opportunity Centers Inc.; HOPE-worldwide LTD.; Kidsgym USA Inc.; Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Atlanta and North Georgia; Metro Atlanta Respite and Developmental Services Inc.; National Urban Coalition for Unity and Peace International; Northwest Youth Power Inc.; Quality Living Services Inc.; Rehabilitation-Exposure, Inc.; Southern K Ranch Inc.; Teens At Work Inc.; Tennis in the Hood Inc.; The Cottage School; Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper Fund Inc.; Wholistic Stress Control Institute Inc./ SIMBA; and YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta Inc.

Commissioner for District 7 is William "Bill" Edwards. On the community advisory board are Mose James III, Lynn Jarrett-Gude and Taffi Vincent.
