Historic marches that count for good

By DR. KNOX HERNDON
Pastor

Throughout the history of the world there have been marches that have changed mankind forever. Some were for better and some for worse.

There was Sherman's march through Georgia which is still being debated today.

There was Mao tse Tung in his long march to communize China which brought millions of people into economic, social, moral and spiritual slavery.

There were the civil rights marches of the 60s which focused on the very soul of America and the injustices of segregation.

There have been marchers for better wages and working conditions throughout America.

There have been all kinds of marches and all kinds of causes in our great country, but for the last three years the March for Jesus in Fayetteville has been something to behold. It is very interesting to see the people who show up for the march.

I have seen whole families there with their infants in strollers. I have seen teenagers with bicycles and marchers with their church banners.

I am reminded of the of the Biblical account of the blind man who was miraculously healed by Jesus by returning his sight. The man was then brought to the religious leaders and questioned as they were trying to find a way to discredit Jesus. The religious leaders said to the blind man "we know that this man is a sinner.

I love the former blind man's response. He said, "Whether he is a sinner or not, I don't know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!"

The Jesus March will come and go until next year, but you and your church can say like the former blind man, "I don't know if the Jesus March was a good idea or not, all I know is that my church and I were there marching and singing and honoring Jesus."

Saturday, May 12, the Jesus March will assemble at the Fayette County High School parking lot and form up at 9 a.m. We will depart the parking lot at 10 a.m. and proceed up to Hood Avenue and go right. We will then go right on Ga. Highway 85 and proceed up to the Fayette Stonewall Village at the fountain and conduct a rally.

This march will be in concert with other efforts across America. Our date this year for the march is a little earlier than the nationwide march. This was done due to the fact that schools in our areas are out earlier and many people take early vacations.

If your church does not have an open trailer for an open float arrangement, then bring a church van or bus with you name on it. If you have youth choirs or youth groups, bring them. This march will involve all churches that want to rally our communities for Jesus.

If you are planning to be a part of the march and bring a group, please contact me at 770-719-2365x1797. Blessings and march on!
