Two Fayetteville women were killed Saturday morning when their car pulled into the path of a dump truck at the intersection of Ga. Highways 314 and 279.

Carolyn Lyons, 53, died at the hospital after the wreck while her mother, Beulah Lyons, 73, died at the scene, according to Maj. Wayne Hannah of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department. Neither woman was wearing her seatbelt when the crash occurred, Hannah said.

Carolyn Lyons was attempting to turn left onto Hwy. 279 when she pulled into the path of a 1994 Peterbuilt dump truck driven by Richard M. Smith, 33, of Griffin, Hannah said. Smith was treated and released from Fayette Community Hospital. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision, reports indicate.

No charges are anticipated relating to the accident, Hannah indicated.

As with all usual serious accidents, blood samples were taken from both drivers to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved. It is not believed that drugs or alcohol were involved, at this point in the investigation, Hannah said.
