Calvary Temple in its 10th year By CAROLYN CARY
Next year the Calvary Temple Assembly of God in Peachtree City will be celebrating its tenth anniversary. Its first pastor, the Rev. Don Barron, and his wife Lorene met with about 50 members at the Booth Middle School for three years. Purchasing a site on Robinson Road, the Rev. Barron and church members physically built much of the sanctuary themselves. Those 50 dedicated members have grown into a congregation of about 230 members whose very diversity reflects the community it's located in. "The Lord is inclusive," says the present pastor, the Rev. Stan Littleton, "rather than exclusive, and for that reason, no person should be excluded from our church, or any church." Not content to minister to just the local community, the church's contributions to foreign missions have been record-breaking ones. Calvary Temple is among the top 40 churches in the state in the amount of its contributions to missions. Realizing the importance of having programs in which all members can take part, there is a Wednesday and Friday morning Bible study; a women's study group held each third Monday evening and each third Tuesday morning; and a youth ministry each Wednesday evening which includes the Royal Rangers for the young men and Missionettes for the young ladies. The Missionettes have had two record breaking years in donations to foreign missions, including 50,00 pieces of medical supplies to Fiji. The church also serves as the host home for the Fayette County Women's Aglow chapter, an interdenominational organization. Sunday School is at 9:30 a.m., worship service is at 10:45 a.m. and the evening service is at 5:30 p.m., which includes a Junior Bible Quiz class for first through sixth grades. There is a special K.I.D.S. Club service for youngsters at 10:45 a.m. The church is located at 202 Robinson Road, just off Hwy. 54 West, Peachtree City and can be reached at 770-486-8887.
