Senoia bridge to be named By JOHN
THOMPSON
Senoia's bridge on Rockaway Road will finally get a name. Since the bridge came into service a few years ago, the City Council has been mulling over what to call the bridge. The bridge links Senoia with access to Peachtree City and Interstate 85. During Monday night's workshop of the City Council, Mayor Joan Trammell said the time had come for the city to decide on a name. Some of the suggestions submitted to the city have included the Lester Mann Bridge, for the mayor who got the project going, or the Keith Brooking Bridge, to honor Senoia's NFL star. Trammell said recent suggestions have included Billy Roesel, who served as mayor for several terms and recently died, or Eddie Whitlock, who served in the Vietnam War and was killed. The council established a committee Monday featuring Councilmen Darren Ratajski and Dianne Cleveland, along with Downtown Development Authority member Tom McKeehan and local bankers Tom Dunlap and Leigh Brown. The committee will meet and take suggestions from the community, but Trammell said the council will vote on the committee's recommendation. "I don't think we should have an election on the name," she said. Citizens are welcome to submit names to City Hall and Trammell hopes the committee can make a decision by this summer. She would like to have a dedication ceremony this fall and added that a plaque will be placed on the bridge honoring the mayor and city council who helped see the bridge project come to reality.
