A politically correct Easter?

By DR. KNOX HERNDON
Pastor

This past Wednesday, we cut grass all day at the church.

Tommy Duncan and his crew showed up and we were preparing the church for the glorious celebration of Easter. We got the slab poured for the Easter Sonrise service under the outdoor pavilion, and seeded and fertilized the sprouting grass.

The birth of Jesus and his resurrection are certainly the two most significant events in Christianity. Churches around the world are hosting and conducting Easter pageants and programs and music to celebrate this monumental resurrection event.

We read every day where in America someone is challenging our religious freedoms. We remember the infamous atheist, MadelineO'Hare in her fight with God as she challenged and won her fight to remove prayer from our schools. Many others jumped on the band wagon and piece by piece are attempting to dismantle the Christian principles upon which our democratic rights and citizen responsibilities were formulated.

I wonder what a politically correct Easter message would sound like from a pulpit? I do not want to dignify that idea with my time but I saw something very, very, wonderful this past Wednesday night.

As I mentioned earlier, we had cut grass all day and worked at the church to clean it up for Easter. We then conducted our weekly Wednesday night Bible study on Revelation and I, being very tired, departed for home. I realized my gas tank was near empty so I stopped at the gas station at the crossroads on Ga. Highway 16 and Ga. Highway 85 to fill up my Ford Escort.

I inserted my Chevron card into the slot to buy gas at the pump when the message came up on the screen "Authorizing" as usual, and then the following message appeared in the screen. "AND WHEN THEY HAD PLATTED A CROWN OF THORNS, THEY PUT IT UPON HIS HEAD, AND A REED IN HIS RIGHT HAND: AND THEY BOWED THEIR KNEES BEFORE HIM, AND MOCKED HIM SAYING, HAIL KING OF THE JEWS."

I was overcome with joy. I shouted and cried at the same time. I don't know how it got on there and who put it there, but there it was, for the whole world
to see! I will forever buy my gas there as long as I live. I even let the management know how much I appreciated it.

Believers and followers of Jesus, a time may come in our nation in the not too distant future where naming the name of Jesus will become against the law. I want to say further, I would like to see the person, or organization or government, or ACLU group or situation that will stop me from proclaiming the gospel message that "He is risen!"

We must as Christians be willing to put our jobs, our families, our futures, our fortunes, and our very lives if necessary on the line for the cause of Christ. Press on for time is short. Watch and pray! Happy, blessed, glorious, proclaiming, Easter. The tomb is empty!
