No traffic light in sight for Andrew Bailey

Residents hoping to see a traffic light at the intersection of Ga. Highway 34 and Andrew Bailey Road will be waiting a while.

At Tuesday's Coweta County Commission meeting, Commissioner Leigh Schlumper said she learned the traffic light is not on the Georgia Department of Transportation's schedule until 2007.

Two weeks ago, the board approved a request to rezone a 23.6-acre site at Hwy. 34 and Andrew Bailey Road from rural reserve to commercial.

The site features 128,000 square feet of space that will be used for retail, office and service establishments.

"One of the reasons I supported the zoning was I thought we would get the light sooner," Schlumper said.

But with no light in the foreseeable future, Schlumper asked the board to approve striping for the area to try and help the traffic jams that routinely occur at the area.

She said the road was wide enough to provide for a left-turn lane onto Hwy. 34. While she acknowledged the striping won't totally solve the problem, she said it is a step in the right direction.

The board agreed and voted to approve striping the road.
