Brooks council accepts tower

Sprint PC, represented by Jeff Evans, along with lawyer Steve Greenberg, had approached the Brooks Town Council several months ago concerning placement of a communications tower.

A number of locations were discussed and it was finally decided to place it at the northeast corner of the Brooks Town Cemetery.

Sprint had originally requested a tower 200 feet high, but Jack Krakeel, county director of fire and emergency services, said that a height of 350 feet would be necessary to facilitate emergency communications going through without a problem.

A compromise was struck between the parties and the tower will be at 300 feet. It will be of a lattice design and not supported by pylons.

A council committee consisting of Bobby Butler and Caroline Smith will work on the lease agreement and bring back a draft to the next meeting.

The regular April 16 meeting has been postponed until April 18.
