Local student takes district spelling bee

Heather Buzzard recently won first place in the 5th District Spelling Bee Championship.

She took first place in the Peachtree City Homeschool Association's competition to win the right to compete at the district level. She received a $100 cash prize and a trophy, and competed in the recent statewide spelling bee.

Booth Middle School's Chris Cool was first runner up at the 5th District bee after winning first place in the Fayette County School System competition.

Cool and Tommy Smith, from Fayette Middle, took first and second place to win the opportunity to represent the system at the district level.

As first runner up, Cool won a $50 cash prize and a trophy.
