Fayette area churches set Easter week observances

Fayette County is preparing for one of the holiest events in the Christian church this week with special religious services and activities leading up to Easter Sunday, the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Events for the week include those on Maundy Thursday, April 12; Good Friday, April 13; Holy Saturday, April 14; and Easter Sunday, April 15.

The community is invited to attend any of the following services and activities:

Community Good Friday Service: Sponsored by ministers of Peachtree City. First Presbyterian Church of Peachtree City,Friday, noon-1:30 p.m. Theme: The Seven Last Words of Christ.

Antioch Baptist Church: Good Friday, "Hail to the King," a musical, and the Lord's Supper at 7 p.m. Easter Sunday, sunrise service at 6:30 a.m., breakfast snack following. Sunday school at 9:45 a.m., worship at 10:45 a.m.

Body of Christ Christian Church: Good Friday, "Resurrection Celebration," choral performance by children, adults and orchestra at 7:30 p.m.

The Catholic Church of Saint Gabriel: Holy Thursday, Mass of the Lord's Last Supper at 7 p.m. Good Friday, Rosary at noon, meditation of the Seven Last Words of Christ at 12:30 p.m., Stations of the Cross at 2:20 p.m. Passion of the Lord, veneration of the cross at 7 p.m. Holy Saturday, Vigil Mass at 8:30 p.m. Easter Sunday, Masses at 8 and 10:30 a.m., special liturgy at 12:30 p.m. No Life teen service.

Christ Our Hope Lutheran Church: Maundy Thursday service at noon and 7 p.m. Good Friday Tenebrae service at 7:30 p.m. Easter Sunday services with Festival Communion at 8:30 and 11 a.m. Youth sponsored breakfast.

Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church: Maundy Thursday, service with First Presbyterian, reception at 6:30 p.m., Holy Communion at 7 p.m. Good Friday Tenebrae service at 8 p.m. Saturday, Easter Vigil at 7 p.m. Easter Sunday, worship services with Holy Communion at 7, 8:30, 10 and 11 a.m.

Edgefield Baptist Church: Good Friday, service at 7:30 p.m. Easter Sunday, sunrise service at 6:30 a.m.

Episcopal Church of the Nativity: Wednesday, April 11, Evensong and Service of Healing at 7 p.m. Maundy Thursday, Holy Eucharist and washing of feet at 7:30 p.m. Good Friday, Way of the Cross at noon (outdoors), liturgy with Service of the Word and veneration of the cross at 3 and 7 p.m. Holy Saturday, Vigil prayer at noon. Easter Sunday, Great Vigil of Easter at 6 p.m. followed by breakfast, Festal Holy Eucharist and Flowering of the Cross at 10 a.m., followed by egg hunt for children.

Fayetteville Christian Church: Easter Sunday, Easter musical, "Redeemer," presented by adult choir, band and drama corps at 8:30 and 11 a.m. No Bible fellowship classes.

Fayetteville First Baptist Church: Friday and Saturday, "Once Upon A Tree." performed by choir and orchestra at 7:30 p.m. both nights, free. Saturday, Easter egg hunt at Spring Hill Elementary at 10:30 a.m. Easter Sunday, worship with Lord's Supper at 8:25 and 11:05 a.m., Korean worship in chapel.

Fayetteville First United Methodist Church: Maundy Thursday, Seder meal at 6 p.m. (tickets $4); communion service at 7:30 p.m. Good Friday, German Requiem at 8 p.m. Easter Sunday, worship services at 8:30, 9:45, 11 a.m., Sunday school at 9:45 a.m.

First Christian Church of Tyrone: Maundy Thursday, Easter Communion and re-enactment of Last Supper at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Easter egg hunt for children at 11 a.m. Easter Sunday, worship services at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday school at 9:30 a.m.

His House Community Church: Easter Sunday, "Son Rise" service, 8 a.m.

Holy Trinity Catholic Church: Wednesday, April 11, Masses at 7, 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., Tenebrae after evening Mass. Holy Thursday, no morning Mass, children's Mass at 4 p.m., Mass of the Lord's Supper (bilingual) at 7 p.m. Good Friday, no morning Mass, no adoration, ecumenical service at First Presbyterian in Peachtree City at noon, Stations of the Cross at 3 p.m., Service of the Lord's Passion (bilingual) at 7:30 p.m. Holy Saturday, no morning Mass, no penance, Easter Vigil at 9 p.m. Easter Sunday, Masses in church and hall at 7:30, 9, 10:30 a.m. and noon. Mass, church and hall; 1:30 p.m., Spanish Mass at 1:30 p.m., church only. No evening Mass.

Inman United Methodist Church: Good Friday, Tenebrae service at 7 p.m. Saturday, Easter egg hunt at 10:30 a.m. Easter Sunday, sunrise service at 7 a.m. in the Inman Cemetery, followed by light breakfast; regular services at 8:45 and 11 a.m., Sunday school at 10 a.m.

Kenwood Christian Church/Christ's Church at Whitewater: Easter musical, "We Behold His Glory," Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. (interpreted for the hearing impaired). Easter Sunday services at 9 and 11 a.m.

McDonough Road Baptist Church: Wednesday, April 11, "Song of the Shadows," Easter candlelight service, presented by adult ensemble. Friday and Saturday, "Alone in the Altar," musical drama performed by choir and orchestra, 7:30 p.m. both nights. Easter Sunday service at 10:55 a.m. Sunday school at 9:45.

National Heights Baptist Church: Maundy Thursday, Lord's Supper and Tenebrae Service of Shadows at 7:30 p.m. Easter Sunday, youth sponsored pancake breakfast at 8:30 a.m., Sunday school at 9 a.m., morning worship at 10:55 a.m.

New Hope Baptist Church: Good Friday, "God With Us," a musical worship encounter presented by Music and Drama Ministry, at 7 p.m. at the church's north campus.

Peachtree City United Methodist Church: Wednesday, April 11, children's Easter musical at 6:30 p.m. Maundy Thursday communion and Tenebrae service at 7 p.m. Ecumenical Good Friday service at First Presbyterian of Peachtree City. Walk to the Cross, middle school 6-7:30 p.m., high school 8-9 p.m. Easter Sunday, youth led sunrise service at the church at 7 a.m.; Easter service for community at 11 a.m. at the amphitheater on McIntosh Trail.

Prince of Peace Lutheran Church: Maundy Thursday, service at 8 p.m. Good Friday, services at 6:30 and 8 p.m. Easter Sunday, services at sunrise, 6:30 a.m. (outdoors), and in the sanctuary at 8 (communion), 9:30 (contemporary music and communion), and 11:15 a.m. (Festival Communion with band and chorus).

Providence United Methodist Church: Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. Easter Sunday, sunrise service at Heritage Christian at 7 a.m., breakfast at Heritage at 7:45 a.m., worship at Providence, 9 and 11 a.m., Sunday school at 9:45 a.m.

River's Edge Community Church: Maundy Thursday, service at 7 p.m. with Lord's Supper, washing of feet and the Word. Easter Sunday service at 10 a.m.

St. Paul Lutheran Church: Maundy Thursday, service at 7 p.m. Good Friday, service at 7 p.m. Easter Sunday, sunrise service at 7 a.m., Easter Festival service at 10 a.m.

St. Andrew's in-the-Pines Episcopal Church: Wednesday, April 11, communion at 6 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Maundy Thursday, service with washing of feet and stripping of altar at 7:30 p.m., Tenebrae at 9 p.m. Holy Saturday, service at 7:30 a.m. with Easter Vigil at 9 p.m. Easter Sunday, Holy Communion at 7:30, 9:15 and 11 a.m.
