If you don't have a special church to attend on Easter Sunday, April 15, head out to the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater. The Peachtree City United Methodist Church will be holding its 11 a.m. service there with lots of surprises in store.

The event is open to anyone who wishes to attend. There will be a full orchestra and a special children's message, after which there will be a really big surprise for them.

The church is in its 27th year and began with about 56 interested congregants. Nearly a dozen of those are still active in the church. Its present facility was built in 1984.

The current congregation of about 2,400 will be not only holding a number of events this year, but many will be leaving the country for a foreign ministry.

At the end of June, approximately 50 youth and adults will be heading for Brazil. They will be holding a Vacation Bible School in the village where they will be staying, as well as helping with construction and home repairs.

The church's Vacation Bible School will be the week of June 18 and is intended for 4th and 5th graders.

In July, kindergartners through third graders will be going to Noah's Ark Animal Rehabilitation Center. Call the church for details.

Associate pastor the Rev. Betsy Haas said that the church will be hosting a "High Potential" conference Aug. 11. It will be given by the Methodist church to pastors and church leaders who want to learn the ways in which their church can handle larger memberships.

Peachtree City United Methodist has been selected as one of the growing churches who have handled their growth well.

In that vein, the church has purchased 64 acres across the road from Mowell Funeral Home on Robinson Road. At this time it is intended for the current church to become a children's center and the new facility will be the worship center.

The senior pastor is the Rev. Chuck Hodges, who has been on board since June, 1996.

Sunday worship is at 9 a.m., 10:10 a.m. and 11:11 a.m. The 10:10 time is a contemporary service. Sunday School is at these same three times.

Wednesday night there is a dinner at 5:30 p.m., with Bible study for children, youth and adults at 6:30 p.m. There is a Bible Study every morning, Monday through Friday, with a nursery provided.

On Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, a Bible Study class is held for those who can only attend at night.

The church is located at 400 Windgate Road, Peachtree City and can be reached at 770-487-6499.
