Blaze destroying golf club restroom may have been set

A restroom facility located near the 6th tee at Braelinn Golf Club was destroyed by a fire early Sunday morning. Fire officials are labeling the blaze as "suspicious" in origin, and the Peachtree City Police Department is assisting the investigation being conducted by the Peachtree City Fire and Rescue Department. The small building was engulfed in flames when the first fire truck got on the scene after 4 a.m., said Peachtree City Fire Chief Stony Lohr. It was located close to a wooded area, but luckily the flames didn't cross into the woods, the chief added. "It had already started to collapse when the first engine got there," Lohr said. He added that embers from the fire didn't catch the wooded area aflame likely because the area was wet from recent rains. "We were lucky it didn't spread into the woods," he said. Some evidence was found leading investigators to believe the fire was not accidental in nature, Lohr said. The loss was estimated at $30,000, and the building was also used for storage, Lohr indicated.
