William Geist achieves rank of Eagle Scout

William J. (B.J.) Geist received his Boy Scouts of America Eagle rank badge in ceremonies recently in Peachtree City.

Geist is a charter member of Boy Scout troop 279 and is the first charter member to receive Eagle rank, the highest in Scouting. The Court of Honor ceremony was at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, which is the troop's sponsor.

Representatives from the Sepahoyatev District, Flint River Council, Boy Scouts of America were on hand along with family and friends.

The Rev. Kevin Peek, parochial vicar, himself and Eagle Scout, represented the sponsoring agency.

Brian Spears, another Troop 279 Eagle Scout, was the interrogator. Bill Rice, and Eagle and committee member for the troop, delivered the Eagle charge.

Geist also received letters of congratulations from national and local officials.

Geist's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Geist, joined friends and attendees in a reception. The elder Geist was the troop's founding scoutmaster.

Geist, the younger, is a sophomore at Sandy Creek High School.
