Three from Fayette nominated for GOAL Instructors at Griffin Technical College have nominated 49 students for the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership, according to Sandra Bryant, coordinator for the local GOAL program. Chosen for recognition by their instructors from Fayette County are Becky Grulke (radiologic technology), Heather Stokes (computer information systems), and Joseph R. Teet (criminal justice technology). The Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education sponsors the GOAL program at the state level. Locally, GOAL is sponsored by the Griffin-Spalding County Chamber of Commerce and the Griffin Exchange Club and coordinated by officials from Griffin Technical College. "The purpose of the GOAL program," said Bryant, "is to spotlight the importance of technical education in today's world and to recognize outstanding achievement by students in Georgia's technical colleges. A screening committee of administrators and instructors at Griffin Technical College will now review all the nominations and interview each of the students. After the nominees have been ranked, four finalists will be chosen to compete for the title of Griffin Technical College GOAL winner. The four finalists will be interviewed and evaluated by a selection committee of representatives from business and industry. The student judged most outstanding will be designated the college's nominee for the title of state GOAL winner and will compete with representatives from the state's other technical colleges for the state award. The winner of the state GOAL title, which is awarded for excellence in leadership, will receive the GOAL medallion. A new automobile will be the grand prize for the state winner. The local GOAL coordinator and the nominating instructor will receive $250 checks.
