After school program begins preregistration

The Fayette County Board of Education after school program is currently accepting student applications for the 2001-2002 school year.

Spring preregistrations will be April 19-May 4. Preregistrations is recommended to secure a space for the new school year.

In order to insure that the growing demand for after school care does not exceed the number of quality care givers available, each site has an enrollment cap. All locations will maintain waiting lists, and if any space remains, additional applications will be accepted beginning Aug. 8.

A minimum attendance commitment of three to five days per week is required to avoid inconsistent fluctuations in staffing. A prepayment of a $10 nonrefundable preregistration fee by May 4 is necessary to secure a space in the program before the beginning of the school year.

The daily tuition rate is $6.50 for three- to five-day attendees. Tuition must be received on the Friday prior to the week of attendance. If space has not been reserved and advance payment made by the deadline date, then the child will lose his or her place in the program and may be placed on a waiting list until space is available.

Children dropped in will be accepted per administrative approval only on an emergency basis. A $12 per day drop-in rate will apply for each child.

The after school program, funded through parent-paid tuition, allows students to participate in the following enriching activities within a safe, nurturing environment: homework time, socialization, recreational sports, indoor and outdoor activities, community service projects, cooking, arts and crafts, creative play, computer time and reading.

After school program handbooks and applications are available from the after school program site coordinators at individual schools.
