Flat Rock A.M.E. Church presents concert next weekend By MICHAEL BOYLAN
The Flat Rock A.M.E. Church in Fayetteville will present a concert next Saturday, March 31, entitled "Where Did It All Come From." Celebrating 150 years of music in the black church, the event will be presented by director James D. Fryar, the minister of music at Abyssinian Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey. The concert will feature local talent, which will have participated in a workshop tracing the history of music in the black church the previous two days. They will also perform with the workshop choir. All denomnations, all musicians and choir members are welcome. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 1, Flat Rock A.M.E. will host "Friends and Family Day," a spirit-filled event with guest speaker Reverend Sherryl L. Powell and a dinner. Powell, an ordained Itinerant Elder of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, has served as pastor of the Flipper Chapel A.M.E. Church in Fayetteville since 1997. Flat Rock A.M.E. is also accepting deposits for a cruise to Nassau next April. The deposit is $25 and anyone is welcome to attend. For more information, call Linda Parker at 770-460-9839 after 7 p.m.
