Citizens
in Fairburn will have a chance to celebrate history this weekend.
Saturday,
residents and history buffs will participate in Confederate Heritage
Day.
The celebration
kicks off at 8:30 a.m. with a prayer breakfast at the First Christian
Church in Fairburn. Cost is $3 with children under 12 free. The Rev.
Charles Baker is the featured speaker.
From 9:30-10:45
a.m., a tour of the Old Campbell County Courthouse is offered, featuring
local artist Nita McFarland.
From 11 a.m.
to noon, the commemoration service is planned. The ceremony is set for
the steps of the courthouse and features Nelson Wimbush.
At 12:30,
the parade kicks off and residents are urged to bring flags, banners
and floats.
Following
the parade, a memorial service is set for 1 p.m. at the old city cemetery.
At 2:45,
dinner and social hour is provided by the First Christian Church. Cost
is $4 and children under 12 are free.
