PTC to refund $144 to citizens who ran for council position

Candidates who filed to fill the unexpired term of Robert Brooks will have a big chunk of their filing fee refunded to them by Peachtree City.

The city council agreed to refund $144 of the $180 qualifying fee that 14 individuals paid so they could be considered for the seat. Even Steve Rapson, who was eventually chosen to replace Brooks, will get the refund, although he had asked his fellow council members not to give it to him.

The qualifying fee is charged basically to cover administrative costs. In this case, since no election was held, the costs were essentially limited to copying of applications and other information, said City Manager Jim Basinger.

The fee also helps insure that only people who are serious about serving on council apply for the position, said councilman Dan Tennant.
