Landscape your home with all-America rose selections

Trying to decide which type of rose to plant? Look no further. Each of the 2001 All-America Rose Selections winners can help enhance your yard in different ways.

The three sunny AARS winners are Marmalade Skies, a tangerine orange floribunda; Glowing Peace, a golden yellow and cantaloupe orange blended grandiflora; and Sun Sprinkles, a bright yellow miniature.

Any front yard or entry can be dressed-up by planting Marmalade Skies in beds, along a walkway or in a sunny side yard. Plant it with flowering shrubs or perennials and you will see color all-season. Marmalade Skies will also work very well as a border or an edging along property lines. This floribunda will grow to be 3 feet by 3 feet and will produce clusters of 5 to 8 blooms on each stem.

Glowing Peace, a stunning rose bush, works well as a property divider, front hedge or screen. This round, bushy grandiflora exhibits large buds, which open to reveal full, 3-inch blooms and will grow to 4 feet by 3 feet.

A miniature rose like Sun Sprinkles can add a burst of color to any small garden, patio or deck. The never-ending supply of tiny, well-formed bright yellow blooms will brighten anyone's day. Miniatures, such as Sun Sprinkles, can be used as a border around a garden, lining a walkway or potted in a container.

Sun Sprinkles exhibits pointed oval buds which spiral open to reveal 2-inch petite, double blooms. It has a moderate spicy fragrance with musk overtones. The perky miniature will grow to 18 to 24 inches.

When planting roses, remember they need at least six hours of sunlight a day and should be planted away from shrubs or trees, where they would be competing for light, water and soil.
