Dental lab headed to Central

In the very near future, the dental hygienist cleaning your teeth could have received his or her training in Coweta County.

Coweta County Board of Education members unanimously approved outfitting a portion of the Central Education Center for a dental lab.

The board approved $34,000 in plumbing contracts for the dental lab and Superintendent of Education Richard Brooks said it will be well worth it.

"We've had a number of requests for a dental lab at the facility and we're moving ahead on it," he said.

The dental lab would allow the school to offer some dental hygiene classes.

In other news, the Board:

F Approved additional classes for Central. The school will now offer an introduction to information technology class and a C++ programming class. Curriculum coordinator Judy Robinson, Ph.D., said the school system has received numerous requests for the classes.

F Announced that summer school starts July 9. The session continues through July 31. Classes run from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and tuition is $300 per Carnegie unit of credit.

Driver education will also be offered at a cost of $175. Non-residents of Coweta County can take the course for $225, if space is available.
