Wednesday, March 14, 2001 Pathway's Mitchell named to Ga. Chamber board Douglas Mitchell, founder and chairman of Pathway Communities, has been named to the Georgia Chamber Board of Directors. Philip Wilheit, president of Wilheit Packaging/ Unisource in Gainesville, will be the 2001 Chair of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and Lindsay Thomas, former U.S. Congressman will be the President and CEO of the Georgia Chamber. Mitchell was chosen for this one-year term upon recommendations of several business and political leaders in Fayette County. Under Mitchell's leadership, Pathway Communities has successfully implemented a comprehensive community plan for the development of Peachtree City, now an internationally recognized master-planned community. Peachtree City's population has quadrupled since Mitchell became the president of Pathway Communities. "Doug is an outstanding leader in the Georgia business community," said Thomas. "We are excited to have him on our Board of Directors." The Georgia Chamber of Commerce is recognized as one of the top state chambers of commerce in the United States and has a membership of over 3,300. In addition to representing the state's business community in the legislature, the Georgia Chamber is heavily involved in the economic development of Georgia marketing effort. Pathway Communities is the developer of Peachtree City in Fayette County, SummerGrove and Avery Park in Newnan and Monarch Village in Henry County.
