Former Senoia chief returning to Fayette

Former Peachtree City Police Officer Ben Thomas is coming back to the county.

Tyrone Town Manager Barry Amos said Thomas is set to be confirmed as a police officer for the town at this Thursday's meeting.

Thomas recently served as Senoia's police chief for four years, and long-time Fayette residents remember Thomas from his unsuccessful runs for Fayette County Sheriff.

Thomas resigned from his position in Senoia at the end of last year.

In other agenda items, the council is set to table a rezoning and land map amendment request from Burt Clark on a 44-acre tract at the intersection of Ga. Highway 74 and Dogwood Road.

Amos said the Planning Commission continued the hearing on the request, so the council will wait for a recommendation.

Clark wants the tract's zoning category changed from agricultural-residential to office-institutional to build an office complex at the site.

Amos said the council also will discuss a Development Authority study. The study will calculate town's financial solvency if all of its property is developed according to the land use map.

"I think it's a good idea. It will give the municipalities an idea of what the development's going to cost," Amos said.

The meeting is at 7:30 p.m. at Tyrone Town Hall.
