New location, new name for Christ's Church By CAROLYN CARY
In September 1983, a new congregation began in Fayetteville and chose as its name "The Kenwood Christian Church." It sat in the Kenwood community in north Fayette County on Ga. Highway 279. In June 1994 the congregation moved to south Ga. Highway 85, next to the Whitewater Middle School. The church has just decided to change its name to reflect its new location, and chose "Christ's Church at Whitewater." The senior pastor is the Rev. Paul K. Carrier, who has been serving the church since March 1984. He is looking forward to retirement this August, and a committee has been appointed to name a successor. The Rev. Dwight Wilkins serves as associate pastor and is excited about the number of ministries now in place. This past summer about 25 youth traveled to Mexico and spent two weeks teaching other youths; adults went to both Ethiopia and El Salvador, spending as much as 10 days teaching the Bible and some were giving medical services to children. They often bring a child back who needs advanced medical attention in the United States. They have been doing this for about seven years. A number of electives are available throughout the month: choir rehearsal is Wednesday evenings at 6:45; an orchestra of about 25 players have rehearsal at 8 p.m.; an adult sign language is held Wednesday evenings; a men's ministry is each last Saturday at 8 a.m. Bible studies are conducted Tuesday mornings at both 6:30 and 6:45. The 600 members enjoy a participation in Sunday worship services of 85 per cent of the membership enrollment and 65 percent of these are involved in a church ministry in one way or another. Worship services are Sundays at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m., Sunday School is also at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. There are a number of electives Sunday evening for children, youths and adults. A Wednesday family meal is at 5:30 p.m. Bible study for adults is at 6:45 p.m. The church is at 1577 Hwy.
85 south and can be reached at 770-461-1487.
