Economic plan for Sandtown gets priority

The community of Sandtown could be a model of smart growth for South Fulton County.

That's the assessment of the Fulton County Economic Development Department in its recent overview of South Fulton.

Sandtown has just over 13,000 residents and is near Fulton Industrial Boulevard and bisects Campbelton Road and Camp Creek Parkway.

In looking at the area, Fulton County's economic gurus came up with several recommendations. Some of the suggestions are:

Create a 501(c)3 and a 501(c)6 organization for donation and business development purposes.

Complete the Campbelton Road study.

Have Sandtown collaborate with the Piedmont Driving Club, Fulton Industrial Business Association, Lakeside Country Club and other property owners on Camp Creek Parkway to insure quality development in the area.

Develop a corridor study for Camp Creek Parkway from 1-285 to Fulton Industrial Boulevard.

Establish a corridor theme with conceptual signage and landscape standards.

Create a village center and a town center, one on Campbelton Road and one on Camp Creek Parkway.

The recommendations will be distributed to the community for residents' opinions and a final plan will be forwarded to the Fulton County Board of Commissioners.
