Falcon Field office building plan tabled
By JOHN
MUNFORD Knowing that a rezoning request is in the works for the same parcel of land, the Peachtree City Planning Commission tabled consideration of the concept plan for an office building near Falcon Field Airport. Mike Rossetti, the owner of the proposed office building, complained that tabling the concept plan would further delay his project by a month and a half. He wants the property rezoned from general industrial to light industrial so the buffers could be reduced along the property line. But the rezoning, if approved, would result in a different concept plan being submitted for the project. That's the hangup several of the planning commissioners had. Rossetti is proposing a first phase consisting of a 20,000-square-foot building on almost five acres bordering Falcon Drive and Echo Court. The second phase would have a similar size building and a hangar to store aircraft. The property is adjacent to the Falcon Field terminal and one concern of the Planning Commission was making sure the city's airport authority had given input on the proposed building. Of particular concern is a proposal to abandon a taxiway easement to the property. Airport Manager Jim Savage also said the Airport Authority might be concerned with making sure drainage on the property meshes with the airport's drainage system. Rossetti became upset at the proposal to table the concept plan consideration, asking the commission to either approve or deny the plan before them. But Planning Commission Chairman Wes Saunders reminded Rossetti that tabling the proposal was within the commission's discretion if there are questions about the information provided. Planning Commissioner Rich Schumacher said that anytime a project's approval has been hurried by the Planning Commission, the results weren't as good as they could have been. In other business, the commission also approved a concept plan for an office/warehouse building on Dividend Drive and a landscape plan for the World Airways building on North Peachtree Parkway at Ga. Highway 74. The office/warehouse on Dividend Drive would be 21,000 square feet and located at the rear of the property, which currently has a 25,000-square-foot building.
