Two candidates appear for open council seat in PTC
By JOHN
MUNFORD Two candidates have officially filed their qualification documents for the open position on the Peachtree City Council that was recently vacated by veteran councilman Robert Brooks. Steve Brown and Fred Wellman were the two residents who filed by early Thursday afternoon, said Jane Miller, director of administrative services for Peachtree City. A number of people had picked up applications during the first few weeks of qualifying, but no one had turned theirs in until yesterday. Qualifying for the position ends this afternoon. The qualifying fee is set at $180 and applicants must be a registered voter, at least 21 years old and have lived in the city for at least six months. Council will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. in a special called meeting to interview potential candidates for the position, which expires Dec. 31. As it would have occurred had Brooks stayed on board, his replacement will be chosen by voters in the general election this November. The interview process during the called meeting includes a five-minute presentation from each candidate after which council members will be allowed to ask questions of each candidate. No questions will be allowed from members of the public or the press. Council could choose a candidate at the Tuesday meeting or wait until its next regular meeting on Thursday, March 15.
