Bridge could be named soon By JOHN
THOMPSON
A committee of Senoia's leaders will help determine what the city's bridge on Rockaway Road will be named. During Wednesday's city retreat, Mayor Joan Trammell suggested that a committee composed of City Council members, along with residents and business leaders, come up with a name for the bridge. Trammell has received several letters about possible suggestions for the name, but said she did not want to see it turn into a popularity contest. "I'd rather see it honored for somebody who made a lasting impression on the city," she said. Trammell suggested people like Billy Roesel, who was mayor several times, or Eddie Couch, who was the city's only resident killed during the Vietnam War. The Mayor said the committee would probably only need to have a couple of meetings before they could make a recommendation to the City Council. Trammell added that a plaque would be placed on the bridge listing the Mayor and Council who worked on getting the bridge built and said she favored a dedication ceremony sometime in the early fall. In a related development, Trammell said she's hopeful that the new historic lights will be in place by the time of the dedication. Last year, the city placed the historic lights on Main Street. Now, Trammell wants the lights placed from Main Street all the way to the bridge. The cost of each light is $1,800 and residents who purchase a light will have a plaque placed at the base. "It's just like a time capsule," she said. The Mayor said she had also approached many of the developers currently building projects in the city to see if they wanted to donate a light.
