City wants new library and police station By JOHN
THOMPSON
Senoia's future could hold a new library and a new two-story police station. Those are just two of the items discussed Wednesday afternoon during the city's planning retreat at the City Park. City Administrator Leonard Thompson said the city was still trying to work on getting exact cost estimates for the facilities, but pegged the library's cost at $1.5 million. The library would be built on a vacant lot on Senoia's Main Street. Coweta County has also expressed interest in building satellite libraries around the county, but Mayor Joan Trammell said it could be 10 years before the county got around to building a library in the city. "They said the first library would be in Sharpsburg. I'm not going to hold my breath to wait for them to fund it," she said. The city is also looking at building a two-story police station behind the present City Hall. The new structure would have a meeting room on the first floor to hold court and City Council meetings. Many of the administrative offices would be located upstairs. Trammell indicated the new buildings would fit into the city's historic flavor and did not give a timeline for when the buildings would be constructed. The city must first identify all elements in its capital improvement project and then submit it to the Department of Community Affairs for approval. Some of the projects' funding could come from impact fees that the city is discussing implementing.
