Vigil named to state board Allan Vigil of Fayetteville was among eight new members of the state Board of Motor Vehicle Safety sworn in by Governor Roy Barnes last week in a ceremony at the State Capitol. The Board will work to help set the direction for the new Department of Motor Vehicle Safety which will house the various responsibilities of vehicle registration, issuance of drivers licenses and permits, and enforcement of safety laws, all of which are now the responsibility of different departments. The consolidation will improve both the consistency of the laws and the enforcement of regulations monitoring the safety of vehicles on Georgia's roads. Vigil is owner and president of Allan Vigil Southlake Ford in Jonesboro. Governor Barnes also announced that he has recommended Tim Burgess (45, Atlanta) to be the Commissioner of the Department of Motor Vehicle Safety. Mr. Burgess is currently the Chief Finance Officer of the Georgia Technology Authority and previously worked as director of the Office of Planning and Budget. The eight new members consist of four appointments from the Governor, two from the Lieutenant Governor, and two from Speaker Tom Murphy.
