BOE buys site on 85 S. for new elementary, high school By DAVE HAMRICK
Fayette County's school board has bought yet another school site ... or most of it at least. Following an executive session Monday night, the board bought a 81.3-acre site and an additional 32.5 acres next door, and voted to instigate condemnation proceedings to get an additional 34.8 acres on Lisbon Road for a high school and an elementary school. Lisbon Road runs between Ga. Highway 85 and Gosa Road and is about half way between Fayetteville and Peachtree City. Students at the new elementary school will go to Whitewater Middle School, then on to the new high school. But if the board decides an additional middle school is needed, there will be room on this site for that as well, said Melinda Berry Dreisbach, public information officer. The board is paying $945,000 for the first site, owned by James V. Richardson. Julian E. Williams owns the second site and will receive $478,000. The schools are part of the board's $65 million construction program, financed by bonds approved by the voters last November. This site is the second to be purchased in recent months for the projects. Last month, a site for another new high school and a middle school was acquired near Brooks. During Monday's meeting, the board also approved a new citizens' advisory committee to be involved in the construction plans for the schools.
