Seniors oppose sales tax It is amazing that the commissioners and school board claim to wish to help the senior citizens of the county and then propose that they vote for a one cent sales tax. I do not know the exact mathematical probability but I would expect that if the Coweta powers that be exempted those over 65 from property tax and kept the three one cent sales taxes they now have they would not lose very much. I just hope the elderly in the county will wake up to the fact that our elected officials figure they are stupid enough to continue to vote for a one cent sales tax which is much more expensive to those living in very modest homes and on limited income than one or two mills of tax added to their tax bill. How our elected officials can claim that the sales tax is fair to everyone rather than the larger property owners I do not understand. If they truly wish to aid the elderly they would have an exemption for those over 65 and not restrict it to those making less than an arbitrary $10,000. Those making $10,000 or a little over will spend most of their income on essentials fuel, electricity and food all of which they will pay sales tax on if they listen to our elected officals. With three one cent SPLOST taxes this will equal $300 on their $10,000 income.
