Science students compete at region
Twenty-four Fayette County students are taking 17 science projects to the next level today. Having won at the system level science fair Jan. 30, the students have advanced to the Regional Science and Engineering Fair at Griffin. Ninety projects from middle and high schools were involved in the county fair. First place winners today will advance to state competition at the University of Georgia April 5 - 7, and the top two finishers will attend the International Science and Engineering Fair May 6 -12 in San Jose, Calif. Top two finishers at the state fair also will be entered in the international fair. Representing Fayette County in today's competition are Melinda Murray, Chad Cross and the team of Brett Haynie and Phillip Strickland, of Starr's Mill High School; Brian Johns and Daniel Jury of Sandy Creek High; Rebecca Timmis, Tony Hung and the Megan Bartels/Laura Gibbes team of McIntosh High; Jessica King, Joel Siegel and the team of Daniel Anderson and Natalie Amoroso of Fayette County High; Aaron Kirschner, Jade Briggs, the team of Michael Sanders, Drew Johnson and Phillip Sims, the team of Matt Alberts and Danny Giglio, and the Brandon Knowles/Matt Collins team, all of Flat Rock Middle School; and Lindsey Gunter of Fayette Middle.
