'President's Rap' to be performed at Kedron While most people learn about United States presidents through textbooks, students at Kedron Elementary School are getting their presidential facts in a more interesting way. Fifth grade students will perform the musical "The President's Rap" Feb. 22. The musical exposes facts surrounding the legends of American leadership from George Washington to George W. Bush. Song titles such as "What is a President" (George Washington's song) and "The Wall Came Down" (Ronald Regan's presidency) to "Time for a Change" (Bill Clinton's election to office) will be performed live to the tunes of classical, gospel, light opera, rock, pop and rap music. The selected music genre for each song will coincide with the era a particular president was in office. A special song entitled "Election 2000," written especially for this musical by Kedron's own Patty Smith, music teacher, and Karen Wyler, language arts and social studies fifth grade chairman, will be performed. "Election 2000" is a song about George W. Bush and the historical election, which continued for weeks after voters went to the polls. The 50-minute musical is being performed in honor of George Washington's birthday. The purpose of the event is to review presidential facts that the students learned in fourth grade up to the present, as well as preview the subject matter that will be discussed in the next six weeks of class. The fifth grade students will perform the musical for their buddy classes, which happen to be Kedron's kindergarten students. The performance will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the school's Camelot Café. The performance is open to the public.
